Brothers and sisters in Christ,
I pray you and yours are well. As a missionary in New Jersey, I was blessed to see God open up amazing doors for ministry partnerships with the public school system and civic leaders. I took advantage of the virus lockdown this last year to intentionally start cultivating relationships with both the mayor and school superintendent for North Chicago.
I used a very similar approach to what I had done in New Jersey. I also intentionally asked Kristen Skinner to help me with this effort and to become our congregation’s point person, which she graciously accepted. I have also asked Bill Hume and Dick Hocking to help with finding corporate sponsors, and they also accepted. By God’s grace, we now have an excellent relationship with Superintendent Dr. John Price, the educational leadership of North Chicago School District 187, and Mr. Gabe Monroe (Foss Park Golf Course Head Golf Professional/General Manager).
Dr. Price established the North Chicago Public Education Fund to provide the financial resources for high school graduates of North Chicago to attend Community College of Lake County. Faith Lutheran Church will build relationships with surrounding communities and citizens through this effort. The funds raised will be gifted to the Foundation, which will administer the scholarships.
