Asher’s Actions – May

Thanks to Faith’s continuing connection to the Nation Guard via Pastor/Chaplain Buckman, my team and I continue to visit a number of vaccination sites. These include the Tinley Park Convention Center, Forest Park (a former department store), and the Lake County Convention Center.

At these locations, my handlers and I visit with two groups: National Guard personnel and people getting vaccinations. For the military, I would meet them in their break room during lunch hour. They got to know me very well because of the number of times I made these visits (eleven in March and April). I would hear “Asher’s here!” many times.

After meeting the military, I would then go to the area where people were resting after getting their vaccination. My handlers and I would walk around to say hello to everyone and ask if they wanted to pet me. Many people would thank us for visiting them. I have probably visited with about 200 people during these times.

I continue to visit a senior couple in Libertyville. We have visited these folks on a number of occasions. The husband has now been moved to a senior center, which I can’t enter yet. We still visit with his wife and take walks in the neighborhood.

This month I started visiting the Sedgebrook senior living community. These visits had previously been done by comfort dog JoJo. He was a friend of mine. We had worked together before the pandemic. JoJo was about 10 or 11 years old. He developed an illness and passed away in early April. JoJo’s team asked me to carry on his work, which I am doing.

We thank the Lord for providing all these continuing opportunities to reach out to people with the Good News about Jesus.

Be in touch. Peace!
