Although some of my regular visits were cancelled due to the increase in COVID-19 cases, I have had a number of visits throughout the Chicago suburbs and Milwaukee area in the last six weeks.
My first visit was to Hales Corners Lutheran Church in Wisconsin, where I was with other Kare9 (military) comfort dogs visiting with people. Then the next day, I went to Elk Grove Village to visit with the International Lutheran Deaf Association. We had a great time with the people. One of my handlers-to-be, who has expertise in working with people with hearing problems, was with me to help.
Then I had a reunion-type visit at Grace Lutheran Church in Northbrook. It was a retirement celebration for a Top Dog. This person helped the Faith congregation learn about the comfort dog mission before I showed up.
Later in the month, I had another outside visit. We went south to Western Springs to visit with grade school kids during their summer camp. I received lots of petting during this visit.
Then I was off to another school event. This time it was Back-to-School Day at St. Matthew Lutheran in Barrington. Kids needing help were given school supplies. I had lots of fun with them.
During the following week, it was back to Highland Park, where I had a special visit with teenagers who had some developmental issues. They enjoyed meeting me and gave me lots of pats.
My traveling continued. This time, it was down to Cicero to visit Morton East High School. I was joined by other Kare9 dogs. We went throughout the high school visiting with many students. I had been to this school last winter when we were helping the Illinois National Guard with COVID vaccinations.
Then back to Lake Forest. This time it was for a memorial service for a Faith congregation member. I had visited with her on many occasions. The family had asked that I be present.
During this period, I also visited the Libertyville Farmers Market at the downtown park. There were many families in attendance. We had much fun getting to know people.
As you can tell, we have been blessed to be able to be invited and visit with so many people. It is a major blessing to us from our Lord Jesus Christ.
