Asher’s Actions for October

During September I have had a number of visits throughout the Chicago suburbs and into the Milwaukee area. Some of my regular visits continue to be cancelled because of the increase in COVID-19 cases, but I also had a number of interesting visits.

My month started with a visit to the downtown Libertyville farmers market. I’ve been there many times, and there are always lots of people to meet.

The next day I went to Hershey High School in Arlington Heights. They had a special program dealing with suicide matters. I had a chance to comfort a student who was feeling bad.

The following week I was able to join the pastor and other members from Bethel Lutheran Church to visit a residential area, where people had various challenges. We were able to provide some comfort.

I then visited a car show in Libertyville. Lots of people were there to look at all these special vehicles. Unfortunately, I can’t drive.

Then I had one of those unique experiences. I had to get up very early, around 2:30 AM. We went to Midway Airport in Chicago. There were many veterans present who were boarding an airplane to fly to Washington, D.C. This was an “Honor Flight” for veterans. It shows the thanks to people who have provided much service to our country.

On the following weekend, I went to the LCC offices to participate in a handler training session. I was there to work with a member of Faith’s congregation, who was being trained to be a handler. This is a very needed accomplishment. I can’t work by myself; trained handlers are crucial to the comfort dog mission.

I finished the month with two repeat visits and one very special one. I visited Round Lake High School for another special program and also visited the Libertyville farmers market one more time. But then I was a greeter at a very special event organized by the Faith congregation to benefit the high school kids graduating from North Chicago High School to have financial means to attend the College of Lake County. Everyone had a great time, while the purpose for this event was achieved. The event was a golf outing with the name Faith on the Fairway. I visited with many of the players.

As you can tell, we have been blessed to be able to be invited and visit with so many people. It is a major blessing to us from our Lord Jesus Christ.
