Throughout the early months of 2022, Faith has worked with Lutheran Church Charities to support the needs of local families.
In January, Faith member Kristen Skinner became aware of a family in need in the North Chicago community. Delonya Driver, whose 6-year-old nephew Damari was tragically killed, was called to care for Damari’s four siblings, ages 5, 7, 11, and 12. As a single mother of two children herself and a foster mother through Lutheran Social Services, Delonya has a powerful faith and compassion for children who need a loving, caring home. Through your generosity, Faith and Lutheran Church Charities have been able to provide financial assistance to Delonya as she cares for these children.
In March Faith’s church council voted to give $10,000 to support Rev. Mark Willig of Morris, Illinois. Pastor Willig suffered a stroke in December and is now paraplegic. This donation has helped with the down payment to purchase a much-needed wheelchair accessible van with a ramp for this current LCMS pastor. The van now makes it possible for Pastor Willig to travel to medical appointments, ongoing therapy sessions, and to his church.
