Appreciating Our Healthcare Heroes

In January, with COVID fresh in our minds, a group of nurses from Faith got together to brainstorm a way to show our appreciation for healthcare workers. We were already praying for them as a request in the PrayerCares app, praying for workers besieged with the number of patients, staff shortages, personal exhaustion, stress, anxiety for family members, and not infrequent personal attacks from patients. Aware of this scenario, we decided, in addition to lifting them up in prayer, we would reach out and demonstrate our care and concern for the nurses at a local hospital.

Our initial plans were a tad grand but were modified over time to include a gratitude card with a handwritten note that was delivered to all units at a local hospital during Nurses Appreciation Week in May with the help of their hospital chaplain. The card stated our gratitude for their untiring care and service, acknowledged the issues they experienced, and reassured them that we would continue to pray for them and their families.

Thanks to all those who contributed to this project, including Deb, Kristen, Maree, Samantha, Sarah, and Wendy.
