Asher’s Actions

On May 14 we celebrated my birthday. I am 8 years old and have been with the Faith handler team since June of 2015. At my birthday we didn’t have a cake—I must watch my waist—but we had little bags of goodies: graham cracker shaped like dog bones and puppy chow for the children and the young-at-heart. It was so nice to see all the children.

I heard there are already several visits scheduled on the calendar for June. These include going to one of the Veteran Honor Flights from Midway International Airport. These flights carry veterans of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam to Washington, D.C., for the day. I join other comfort dogs and visit with veterans before they board their flight. I must be up and out at 2:30 AM to make the 4:30 AM visit! This means I get to have a sleepover at Bill’s, my military handler, place.

I also have several visits planned with kids in June. The first is with sixth graders at a North Chicago middle school. Then there is a visit to kids at Walcamp. Later in the month, I will be visiting with kids at the North Chicago Evening Bible Adventure run by our youth worker, Nic Cass. Other visits include a visit to Cook Memorial Park and the farmers’ market in downtown Libertyville. There are also several planned visits to Radford Green Residential Center, where I hope to reconnect with some folks I met the last time I was there. And this is just the beginning!

Praise the Lord; it’s time for action!

Be in touch, peace,

Asher
