The Focus on Belize
More than fifteen years ago, St. John Lutheran Church in Ellisville, MO, began sending short-term mission teams to Belize. There, they established relationships that grew and eventually led to the formation of the Belize Mission Society (BMS). Through the countless efforts of mission workers, volunteer mission teams, and the partnership with BMS, the LCMS has two Lutheran churches operating today. The goal is to have one within each of the six districts of Belize.
The Northern Illinois District met in convention earlier this year. They adopted a resolution to make Belize a primary international mission focus for the churches in the District. Faith is excited to support this initiative and blessed to be able to host Gary and Sue Kessler on the weekend of July 9 and 10. Gary and Sue are recently assigned missionaries to Belize, and they will be joining us in worship to share their experiences.
How to Support
As a congregation we are running a campaign to ask 25 of our member families to pledge to provide $20 per month for a one-year commitment. These pledges will be matched by the church dollar-for-dollar for a match total of $6,000. Our target goal is to provide $12,000 in support to the Kesslers through our pledges and matching funds.
We know that during these uncertain times, asking for additional financial support can be challenging for some. But as Paul says in Philippians 4:19 (NLT), “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” We ask that you prayerful consider supporting this important ministry, whether it be financially, volunteering time, or even broadcasting the message to others of the need.
