Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I pray you and yours are well.
Why should we do good works? We are saved by grace aren’t we? Isn’t it like somebody once first said, “I like to sin, God likes to forgive, this is perfect!”?
Why does it matter? Doing good works. Why does it matter if we do good works or not?
Maybe the problem is revealed when you ask a Christian what believing is all about – because all to often Christians will say, “My faith is about Heaven, getting to Heaven.” This is certainly true, but it also is certainly lacking.
God has prepared good works in advance for us “to do.” Good works have nothing to do with getting us into Heaven. That is purely by grace. But good works have everything to do with being a follower of Jesus.
Recently I was visiting a lady at the hospital. She shared with me that she always had felt called to be an evangelist but that she had let other people and other priorities get in the way. She was genuinely sad for a lifetime of missed opportunities. You see, just because God prepares the good works for us to do doesn’t mean
we have to do them. We are not robots. It is our choice. It is your choice.
Your friend in Christ,
Pastor Jim
