Youth and Children’s Ministries Update

North Chicago VBS

During the third week of June, we hosted a vacation Bible school in the city of North Chicago. By renting out a space in the park district building, we were able to be present in the community for the whole week and connect to families where they are. Each day of the week we provided dinner followed by Bible-themed games, crafts, and songs. In addition to connecting with a few families throughout the week, we met some wonderful people in the community who work for the park district and school. Our VBS was a great early step in our ministry to North Chicago, and I look forward to building on the relationships and opportunities we discovered.

LCMS Youth Gathering

On July 9, Teresa Evans and I will be leading three of our high school youth to the LCMS Youth Gathering in Houston, TX. For this summer’s gathering, approximately 20,000 youth and leaders will be coming from across the country for a week of community, Bible study, worship, and fun. The theme for this year’s gathering is “In All Things,” which focuses on the idea that all things in our lives are brought under the gracious rule and reign of Jesus Christ through baptism. You can follow along our adventures on Faith’s Facebook page, as well as the Youth Gathering Facebook page @lcmsgathering.

Middle School Asher Visit

On June 6, Asher, Dick Hocking, and I visited Neal Math & Science Middle School in North Chicago. We were able to stop by two classrooms and see about 30 students in total. It was just before the end of their school year, which provided us with a great opportunity to talk about summer plans and how their year went. Overall, it was a great visit and something we hope to make a more regular occurrence in the coming school year.
