Asher’s Actions

ASHER’S ACTIONS by Asher Comfort Dog

Continuing on with the significant activities I have done in recent months, but June was a slightly less active month. Relative to the 22 weekdays in the month, I had 10 days with an activity. The major reason for the change is that elementary schools are closed for the summer. I continued my community presence at eight locations.

For the community, I continue to visit the senior residential facility called Radford Green, and I revisited another residential location at Gurnee Meadows. In all of these locations, people are always so happy to see and pet me. We’ll continue to go back to these places in the coming months.

Then, I also revisited the Warren Barr facility in Highland Park. I again met with 25 residents in a large dining room. Everyone petted me and were very happy about this visit. Staff were excited about there action and look forward to more visits.

Then I returned to the very special place; the Reach Center for helping adults with severe disabilities. I usually meet with a small group, about 10 adults. Then, I continued to visit school in Forrestall Village, near the Great Lakes Naval Center, for the last time for the summer. We had a great time in each school seeing the students. We’ll probably be returning to each school on a regular basis in the fall. In addition to these schools, I visited the Trinity High School in River Forest for destressing purposes at the end of the school term.

I made my regular visit to my veterinarian. I got shotsand a clean bill of health!

There was an important Faith Congregation meeting on June 11. A resolution was approved to request LCC for a second comfort dog, if the Congregation can meet LCC’s requirements. A key need is to identify volunteers who would be willing to be either handlers or care-givers. This is a challenging need. We are starting the process by engaging people with the idea to volunteer to be a helper, i.e. Mission Partner. I need volunteers who could join my handlers in this mission. You would have a chance to help and talk to people and kids on my visits. Once people get this experience, volunteers might be willing to be trained as a handler or care-giver.

Let my Top Dog, Dick Hocking (https://faithlakeforest.org/contact/contact-dick-hocking), know if you can help.

Praise the Lord for all of these opportunities to serve people in His Name. Be in touch. Peace. Asher
