Music Ministry Updates

By George Felty

Greetings and a blessed new year.

It is such a pleasure to work here with the choir and staff and prepare for Lent, Palm Sunday, Holy Week, and finally, Easter in the coming months. It is my hope to have special music and some instrumental ensembles to play for Maundy Thursday and Easter Sunday morning services.

I have discussed with the pastor about having a pageant on Saturday, April 11 before Easter. That is in the preliminary stage right now. It is my plan for the choir to do a special cantata presentation entitled “Worthy Is the Lamb” by Lloyd Larson. The cantata is divided into three sections that can be done leading up to Easter. The first section is “Revered King,” which includes a choral adaptation of “Worthy Is the Lamb” with narration and “Blessed Is the King! Hosanna!” with narration. Parts one and two can be done for Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. Part three is “Risen Savior” and features the choir singing “Glory to the Risen Lamb!” with narration and the reprise, “Praise the Living King” with “Worthy Is the Lamb.” “Worthy Is the Lamb” tells the compelling story of God’s plan to deliver all people from the clutches of sin and death. This is a reminder that Isaiah’s prophetic words were fulfilled in Jesus.

“Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows. He was pierced for our transgressions; crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and by His wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:4-5)

In closing, I am looking for additional singers in the choir. Anyone interested in joining the choir is asked to contact me at the church. Thank you and God’s blessings.
