Faith Youth Serve in Marshall, Missouri

From August 6 to August 9, I had the opportunity to lead a youth service trip down to Marshall, Missouri. Four youth and one mom joined Donnie Stubblefield and me for the seven hour trip to central Missouri. While there we had the opportunity to serve the local community through two projects.

The first of these was helping an elderly woman with general updates on the outside of her house. We stained her deck, scraped and repainted her house, and cleaned out brush and overgrowth around her house and yard.

The second project we worked on what helping to clean out and remodel the basement of a local church that had flooded. The long term goal for this basement was to turn it into a gathering place for the college ministry that was happening at a nearby university. There was a lot of work to be done, but great progress was made.

In addition to the service we did, this trip also provided the chance for our youth to work, play, and study the Bible with other youth from the Marshall, Missouri community. After our work each day, and a brief stop at Sonic Drive-In for some refreshing drinks, we headed to the local swimming pool for some much-needed relaxation and cooling off. Our days would close with a time of worship and a devotion. These devotions provided great context for the work we were doing by looking at how Jesus came to serve us and how we are called to do likewise.

Overall, this was a great service trip to kick–off my time here at Faith Lutheran Church. I was grateful for the work we could do and the relationships that were started. I look forward to the future of our youth ministry and what God will do through our youth, our parents, and our church.
