With the summer coming to an end within three weeks, several important actions have been made recently. These have been accomplished as a coordinated effort between Faith Lutheran and the Eden Restoration Project (ERP), Waukegan. Both entail the addition of significant vehicles to support gardening activities.
First, responding to a request from the Manna Project, the Faith Lutheran Church Council approved a donation of $5000 to the Eden Restoration Project. These funds, along with other financial resources held by ERP, are being used to acquire a used four-wheel farm tractor with a front bucket and trailer. This equipment will provide the means to substantially improve soil conditions at the Prince of Peace Community Garden and other community gardens managed by ERP. The tractor will be a key resource for fresh vegetable production in east Lake County.
Second, a used Chevrolet Suburban was donated by the Hocking family to ERP. This vehicle will be used for food delivery supporting the Taste of Eden Project operated by ERP. This is a project entailing a fresh food supply agreement with local farmers to allow area residents to order fresh vegetables and have them delivered. This vehicle is also heavy and strong enough to pull the farm tractor and trailer.
