On Saturday, April 17, Asher Comfort Dog and some members of his team had the honor of participating in the 2021 Run for Respect Virtual 5K.
The event, which was promoted by Lutheran Church Charities’ Comfort Dog program, was undertaken as a demonstration of support for the Life Skills Class at Pontiac Township High School. This year’s theme, You Can’t Mask Respect, was meant to spread the word about the importance of inclusion and showing respect for everyone.
The event began with a brisk morning walk to the Lake Forest City Hall, followed by a sense-arousing stroll through the local alleyway market. Beckoned by the warm sunlight, Asher and his handlers then meandered through historic Market Square to the Lake Forest train station. Their walk continued along light-dappled paths that led participants around the downtown, past local mansions and through Lake Forest Open Lands areas. A visit to the Lake Forest Police Department served as the team’s final destination before completing their 5K circuit.
As intended, the day’s journey allowed Asher to show off his good manners, and presented his handlers with numerous opportunities to chat with local residents about the Comfort Dog Ministry at Faith and the importance of being respectful of and to everyone.
